Ways We Save Money: SUMMER 2017

Saving money is my hobby! I love to find new ways to save money, and I really love sharing them with you, dear Reader!

So, normally I share my frugal ways each month in a “Ways We Save Money” post, but this summer I slacked up on sharing that each month. But, trust me, I have still been saving lots of money. I just can’t help myself. But,  I took myself some maternity leave (yes, even from blogging) and therefore was unable to keep ya updated on all the savings. So, now I have a big ol’ list of ways we saved money this summer, instead of simply last month’s savings.

So, without further ado, check out all the ways we saved money this summer…

How we save money on a hot date.

So we went on a couple of completely free dates this summer by using gift cards. We always end up being gifted restaurant gift cards, which I totally love! We had our first date post-baby completely free. Then, we had a completely free anniversary date, a week or so later. I love spending time with Hubby sans-kiddos, the only thing that makes it sweeter is doing it for free!

How I save money on a coffee date.

So, maybe I’m a basic white girl, but I love me some Starbucks. I. Just. Do. Does paying $5 for coffee make it taste better? Well, no, but for some reason I still do it from time to time. You know what does make it taste better though? Paying nothing for it! Starbucks gift cards are life, man! I mean, gift me a $5 bill and I’ll think you are crazy, but give me a $5 Starbucks card and you just won a friend for life.

Anywho, I saved money taking my hottie hubby out for a coffee date a few times this summer on Starbucks gift cards. Their app makes keeping up with those cards so much easier, too.

How I save money on contacts.

Okay, this one was a one and done, but a totally cool one no less. I am a contact wearer. I have been for like 18 years. I love em, but I always cringe when I run out of them and have to drop a bunch of cash to buy another box or two. So, when I saw this really awesome deal on FB this summer I snagged it up.

Hubble makes daily contacts that you order online and they ship them right to your door. That’s not the great part though, the great part is that they give you your first shipment for free. They will send you 15 pair of contacts and all you have to pay is $3 shipping.

I ordered my free pairs and then unsubscribed. However, I really, really enjoyed the convenience of the daily disposable contacts and am seriously considering signing up for their monthly delivery. We shall see!

How I save money on adorable clothes!

I haven’t shopped for clothes for myself in a long time. Being pregnant and then postpartum does not put me in any kind of mood to want to try on clothes. Ick! I’m still not at my pre-pregnancy weight, but this deal was too good to pass up.

Stage Department Store had all their clearance tops and bottoms marked down to $4.99. I HAD to go, I mean I just couldn’t not go to a sale like that! 😉 I ended up with 4 tops valued at $184.00 and I only paid $20! Plus, now I feel a little bit better dressing this postpartum body.

How we save money on a back pack.

Normally I am buying back packs up right about now on clearance to save for next year. I have my eye out for them, but haven’t seen any yet. This year we saved by using one that was given to us as a door prize at a kid’s revival. I paid $5 for a vinyl monogram that I ironed on myself. Bam! Adorable backpack, little cost!

How we save on kid-friendly entertainment.

We HAVE to keep these boys busy or I will lose my mind! Staying cooped up in the house all weekend is bad for my sanity. But, y’all know I don’t like to spend a lot of money, so we are always looking for free or frugal family fun. Here are some of the ways we kept the boys busy and the Mama sane this summer…

Painted Rock Hunting

This summer we have been hunting painted rocks! Its free and so much fun! Have you tried it? You can read more about it in this post.

Rock Painting Parties

We attended a free rock painting party at the library. The boys had a whole lot of fun, and so did I! Then we had even more fun running around town hiding them.

Lego Club

Lego Club is yet another free event the library hosts. We go there every third Saturday of the month for guided lego building!

Swim Lessons

We got swim lessons for our oldest for $10! We used our local community recreation center and were thrilled with their program. I pays to know what free and/or cheap progrmas your community offers!

Angry Birds Party

Our 6 year old had an Angry Bird’s themed birthday party this year! Why Angry Birds? Because I found Angry Birds party supplies for 75% off last year, that’s why! 😉

(Of course, there are more Angry Birds decorations there but that’s a whole other post.)

Sci-Port Science Center

I have written about it before, but I’ll say it again, Sci-Port memberships are totally worth the money. My boys love it, and I love the that they are engaging in play and learning instead of trying to sit in front if the iPad all day! Can I get an “Amen”?!
