Frugal Curtain Hack: Make Cheap Curtains Look Expensive

Curtains are expensive! I don’t like spending good money on window treatments, but I really don’t like the look of cheap curtains either. What’s a penny pincher to do about her windows, then?

Let me tell you about this frugal curtain hack that will take your curtains from frumpy to fancy!

Turn cheap curtians into chic window treatments

Buy some cheap inexpensive curtains and tweak them to make them look nicer. I bought some $6 Wal-Mart curtain panels and turned them into this!

All I did was add grommets, but look at the major difference. They went from cheap, frumpy curtains to classy, well-hung window treatments.

Here is how I took cheap curtains and turned them chic with grommets!

Turn cheap curt

Measure out equal distance for 8 grommets across the top of your panel. We measured a little but mostly just eyeballed it. (Hubby is the math brain in the house, so I got him involved. But, it turns out that eyeballing it doesn’t require much math.)

Then, go through and use the stencil that came with your grommets to mark where you will cut.

You will end up with eight circles.

Cut out all of your circles. After doing one all the way through to test it out, we realized that they worked better if we cut inside the lines, rather than on the lines.

Take the grommet piece that is not toothed, but has an inner lip on it and push it through the circle you cut.

Then snap a toothed piece on it. It is literally that simple!

Then, hang those lovely, up-classed curtain panels and enjoy a frugal window makeover!

We worked on it in the evening while watching TV and relaxing. It was an easy project that made me feel so much better about my living room!

Now it’s your turn! Have you ever used grommets? Aren’t they easy!? Do you have any other frugal curtain hacks to share with us? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I love love these ideas!!! I also for my kitchen like to buy a 84′ single panel curtain that I love and measure the long window and cut it accordingly and hem it and with the left over curtain I hem it and use it as my over the sink window curtain!! I get two windows with one curtain!!

Funny! I cut a long panel and put half over my back door window and half over a bathroom window. Two for one as well!

Thanks! I got them at Wal-Mart. They were on clearance for $3 a pack. Each pack had 8, so they covered one panel.
